Speyside is known for its whisky, but it’s also an incredible place to run. Having lived in the Moray area for a lifetime it took way longer than I would like to admit to discover it’s breathtaking landscapes, varied terrain, and not to mention ; supportive running community, it’s a dream location for beginners and experienced runners alike.
Scenic Running Routes From riverside trails along the Spey to scenic forest paths and challenging hill climbs, there’s something for everyone. The Speyside Way offers fantastic mixed-terrain routes, and coastal paths provide stunning sea views. The Cairngorms National Park is also within reach, offering stunning mountain trails for those who love a challenge, likewise some glorious loch side low level routes.

For those who enjoy a bit of history with their run, routes through whisky distilleries and old railway lines make for an interesting experience- plenty hidden gems some locals would love to tell you all about , given the opportunity. The Moray Coast Trail is another must-run, with its breathtaking cliffs, sandy beaches, and picturesque fishing villages.
Running in All Seasons Ofcourse, the weather can be unpredictable, but with the right gear, you can run year-round. Winter requires grippy shoes and layering, while summer offers long, light evenings perfect for exploring new trails. Plus; did you know we are in a rare pocket of the country which hosts it’s own micro-climate! Spring and autumn bring vibrant scenery, making every run a visual treat. The key is to be prepared—waterproof layers for rain, thermal gear for colder months, and hydration for warmer days.
Community & Event Moray and Speyside has an active running community with weekly park runs, trail races, and charity events. Whether you're training for your first 5K or an ultramarathon, there’s a supportive network to keep you motivated. Events like the Dramathon, where runners follow whisky trails, add a unique local twist to racing.
